About Personal Independence Payment
Personal Independence Payment (PIP) helps with some of the extra costs caused by long-term disability or ill health. It's not means-tested, so your income and savings don't affect what you get.
PIP Components
PIP has two parts, and you could get one or both:
- Daily living component - if you need help with everyday tasks like washing, dressing, eating, and managing your money
- Mobility component - if you need help getting around

How Points Work
During your assessment, you'll be scored on daily living activities and mobility activities. You need to score:
- 8-11 points to get the standard rate
- 12 or more points to get the enhanced rate
Claiming PIP
To claim PIP, call the PIP claims line: 0800 917 2222. You'll be sent a form to complete. After returning the form, you may be asked to attend an assessment.
