  • Eldest/only child: £26.05 per week
  • Each additional child: £17.25 per week

High Income Child Benefit Charge

  • No charge if income under £60,000
  • 1% charge for every £200 over £60,000
  • 100% charge (full repayment) if income over £80,000

About Child Benefit

Child Benefit is a regular payment to help with the costs of raising a child. You can claim for each child you're responsible for until they turn 16 (or 20 if they stay in approved education or training).

2025/2026 Weekly Rates

  • Eldest or only child: £26.05 per week
  • Additional children: £17.25 per week each

High Income Child Benefit Charge

If you or your partner earn over £60,000:

  • You'll need to repay some Child Benefit through tax
  • The charge is 1% of Child Benefit for every £200 over £60,000
  • If either parent earns over £80,000, you repay 100%

  • The claiming parent gets National Insurance credits (protects State Pension)
  • Your child automatically gets a National Insurance number at 16
