Warm Home Discount

£150 off your electricity bill

A one-off discount on your electricity bill between October and March.

You may be eligible if you:

  • Receive the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit
  • Are on a low income and receive certain benefits
  • Live in a property with a high energy cost score

Note: Most people get this automatically. Check with your energy supplier if you think you're eligible but haven't received it.

Winter Fuel Payment

£200 - £400 per year

An annual payment to help with heating costs during winter.

You may be eligible if you:

  • Were born before 23 September 1958
  • Receive Pension Credit (from winter 2024/25 onwards)
  • Lived in the UK during the qualifying week

Important change: From winter 2024/25, Winter Fuel Payment is linked to Pension Credit eligibility. If you think you might qualify for Pension Credit, claim now to receive both benefits.

Cold Weather Payment

£25 per cold period

Automatic payment when the temperature is recorded as, or forecast to be, 0°C or below for 7 consecutive days.

You may be eligible if you receive:

  • Pension Credit
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Universal Credit (if not working or with LCWRA/child element)

Automatic: If you're eligible, you'll receive this automatically within 14 days of the cold weather period.

Energy supplier schemes

Many energy suppliers have hardship funds and payment plans. Contact your supplier directly to ask about help available.

Priority Services Register

Free support from your energy supplier if you're elderly, disabled, or have a long-term health condition.

Household Support Fund

Your local council may have funds to help with energy bills. Contact them to find out what's available.

British Gas Energy Trust

Grants available to help pay off energy debts, regardless of who your supplier is.
